HOW IT WORKS
The BBL device is used to deliver light energy to heat the skin, which then absorbs the energy to target skin cells. This assists in the stimulation of new collagen production to help the skin restore itself and improve the texture, tone, and overall appearance to bring forth a younger, more beautiful look!
Broadband light is different from other lasers that administer narrow bands of light to the skin’s surface. Narrow bands of light can damage the surface of the skin during treatment, while broadband light does not. Instead, the revitalizing effects of broadband light are absorbed by the deeper parts of the skin – the dermis – while the superficial layer of the skin remains unharmed. As a result, BBL Photo Rejuvenation targets signs of aging where they begin, not just where they are seen. This provides a more effective and longer-lasting treatment than some other anti-aging treatments. Plus, this allows patients to return to their normal routines very quickly following the treatment.
GOOD CANDIDATES
While the majority of our BBL Photo Rejuvenation candidates are in their 30s and 40s, it may also be a fitting treatment for younger or older patients. BBL Photo Rejuvenation may be used to treat patients experiencing any of the following conditions, including:
- Hyperpigmentation
- Small facial veins
- Fine lines and wrinkles from aging
- Age spots
- Redness and flushed skin associated with rosacea
- Freckles and spots
- Birth marks
- Red spots
- Port wine stains
- Burn erythema
- Sun damaged skin
BBL treatment is suitable for many lighter skin types, including sensitive skin, but it may not be best for patients who have darker skin pigmentation. Light therapy may lead to patients with darker skin pigmentations to experience changes in pigmentation. It is also important not to be tanned at the time of your treatment, and to avoid excessive sun exposure following treatments.
In order to be considered for BBL Photo Rejuvenation, it is important that the patient is in good health. They should not have any current history of cancer or active injections. Histories of recurrent facial herpes simplex, systemic lupus, or porphyria, may all be negatively impacted by treatment with BBL Photo Rejuvenation.
During the consultation, it is important that the patient is up front with Dr. Reed about their medical history, including previous treatments, medical conditions, and medications that they currently take. This is kept private between the doctor and the patient and is only used to ensure the patient’s health and safety. Furthermore, please inform the doctor of any recent history of sun exposure or the use of self-tanning products.
Finally, patients interested in any cosmetic procedure should have realistic expectations for the outcome of the procedure. It is important that the patient understands that BBL Photo Rejuvenation is not a replacement for a surgical procedure such as a facelift. They should also understand that the outcome will vary from patient to patient, depending on a variety of factors, mostly including the patient’s current skin quality and areas of concern.
BBL TREATMENT
In general, each treatment session takes approximately 15 minutes and patients can return to their normal activities following treatment. Patients can treat any area of the body with BBL photo rejuvenation, and it is typically used on areas of the body that have the most exposure to damaging sunlight. The most common areas for treatment are the face, hands, neck, shoulders, upper back, and chest. Most patients find the treatment comfortable. Numbing agents, however, are available for those who desire it.
Patients are encouraged to schedule several treatments for the best results, up to five sessions spaced approximately two to three weeks apart. However, during the consultation, Dr. Reed will evaluate the patient’s concerns and help them determine the optimal treatment plan for them.
RECOVERY
While the treatment is considered non-invasive, some patients experience mild redness for a few hours after treatment. This should resolve quickly, and it can be covered with makeup if necessary. Patients with pigmented lesions may notice that these areas darken before they fade and flake off over time. In just a short amount of time, the skin will feel smoother, skin tone is more even, and fine lines, wrinkles, and pores are often much less noticeable. After treatment, patients are more sensitive to sun exposure and should be diligent about wearing sunscreen each and every day to avoid further sun damage to their skin.
RESULTS
The changes to the skin will be gradual and appear over the course of the series of treatments. This is attractive to patients who cannot afford to take significant time away from their day-to-day routines and do not want it to be obvious that they’ve had anything done. Instead, the changes will reveal themselves as if the patient recently found a fantastic new skin cleanser and has gotten a ton of wonderful rest.
Following the full series of treatments, patients can expect an improvement in their skin texture, decreased redness, more luminous skin, and even skin tone. Results will vary from patient to patient, but the doctor will be able to illustrate what the patient will be able to expect at the time of the consultation.
CONSULTATION
When the patient comes in for a consultation they will meet with Dr. Reed who will be administering the BBL Photo Rejuvenation treatment. During this personalized consultation, the doctor will ask the patient about their concerns and what their goals are following the procedure. The doctor will make sure that the patient has realistic expectations for the treatment and may, in some cases, recommend alternative or additional procedures to meet the patient’s goals. This may include a different laser skin treatment or microneedling.
Patients considering BBL photo rejuvenation or other dermatological treatments to make a dramatic impact on the appearance and texture of their skin can contact the team at Integrated Dermatology to schedule an initial consultation visit with us at our state-of-the-art facility.
The doctor will evaluate the patient’s areas of concern to determine the best treatment process. They will also likely take photographs for further analysis and to use as “Before” photographs that will illustrate how the patient’s skin has changed over the course of treatment.
The last part of the consultation will be an open dialogue between the patient and the doctor where the patient will have the opportunity to ask any questions they have about the treatment. In order to get the most out of the consultation and treatment, the medical staff at Integrated Dermatology recommend that patients come in with several questions written down that they have about the treatment or potentially other treatments. At this time, the doctor will also be able to answer any questions about pricing, specifically catered to the patient’s experience.
