Kybella Q & A
What is Kybella?
Kybella is a non-surgical approach to fat reduction. The minimally invasive injections can reduce the appearance of a double chin, but visible results can take a few weeks. It’s the only injectable approved by the FDA for reduction of submental fat, more commonly known as a double chin.
How does Kybella work?
Kybella is an FDA-approved drug that destroys fat cell membranes when it’s injected into the submental fat. The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, which is naturally found in the body and destroys fat cells. Once the fat cells are emulsified, the body gets rid of them through its natural processing system in just a few weeks.
Since the cells are not diminished in size but actually destroyed, results are lasting. This one-of-a-kind injectable provides a safe, quick, and effective way to achieve a defined jawline and neck without needing to undergo a surgical procedure.
Who is a good candidate for Kybella?
Kybella is safe for injection on all skin types and complexions. Kybella injections can be performed on men and women over the age of 18 who are in good health. The best candidates have the following features.
- Pinchable amount of skin/fat under their chin that is not solely caused by lax skin
- Not significantly overweight
- Sufficient skin elasticity
Since every patient is different, the number of injections and sessions necessary to reach desired results differs based on the extent of the case and the individual’s desired outcome. If you’re overweight, you may need to attend more sessions.
What can I expect from my Kybella treatment?
Kybella treatments usually take about 20-30 minutes to complete the entire injection process. First, your neck is cleaned with an antibacterial solution, and the injection specialist marks an injection grid from the chin to the bottom of the neck. The predetermined doses are injected into the marked grid.
You might feel a tingling sensation as the solution is being injected. If you’d like, you can request a numbing agent. Once injections are completed, the grid is wiped off, and you can return to your daily routine. Most people see significant results after one to three sessions of Kybella spread eight weeks apart.
